One never knows where a conversation might lead, but I’ve learned that staying open to connection often brings unexpected gifts — insights, collaborations, and resources that can truly change lives.
Recently, one of those conversations led me to meet Jay Goth, a seasoned entrepreneur with deep roots in the technology sector. Jay also serves on the board of Burble Creativity Inc, a company dedicated to delivering the power of story through minimally defined immersive environments.
It was Burble’s new product, the Story Tent for Neurodiversity that captured my attention — a product I believe has real potential to help the neurodiverse and gaming-addicted clients I work with every day.
The Story Behind the Story Tent
During our conversation, Jay shared how Burble Creativity Inc. was founded by Taylor Cole, whose personal journey toward understanding his own neurodivergence became the foundation for something extraordinary.
In 2017, Taylor was struggling — isolated, burned out, and disconnected from relationships and purpose. Even ordinary conversations felt exhausting. After extensive evaluations, he was diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) — finally, an explanation for why the world felt so loud and confusing.
But instead of viewing his diagnosis as a limitation, Taylor reframed it as his “neurodivergent superpower.” Determined to create tools that matched the way his brain processed sound, story, and emotion, he developed what would become Minimally Defined Immersion (MDI) — a new way to experience storytelling that promotes calm focus and emotional regulation.
Fast forward to 2020.
Another day in the lab at Bourns Innovation. But just outside the lab doors, in the courtyard, chaos. Kids running wild. An event falling apart. Taylor couldn’t think through the noise.
On impulse, he offered a solution: “Can I read some stories to them?”
He led 10 children into the first Burble Creativity tent prototype. The noise stopped. For one hour, those kids sat completely still, absorbed in stories.
When they emerged, Taylor looked up to see parents standing outside—tears streaming down their faces.
“Our kids have NEVER stayed calm this long.”
Taylor was stunned, overwhelmed by the emotion around him. Then Beth, President of the California Society for Autism, introduced herself. All 10 of those children were autistic. She had one question: “What did I just witness?”
Within a month, Taylor was presenting to the California Society for Autism board. Burble Creativity was born.
What started as one man’s personal tool to navigate the world became something far bigger—a solution for millions who experience stories and the world around them differently.
The Burble Story Tent: A Calming Space for Neurodivergent Minds
The Burble Story Tent was refined in collaboration with the autism community to become an evidence-based sensory and storytelling experience for children aged 5–17.
Although originally marketed for Autism support, it is neurodivergent-friendly — helping children with ADHD, AuDHD, and sensory regulation challenges find calm through immersive, multisensory storytelling.
Using the MDI™ approach, the tent combines narrative, sound, light, and touch to engage both the imagination and the nervous system. It’s not just a story experience — it’s a tool for emotional regulation, creativity, and connection.
Why This Matters for Today’s Families
In my coaching work, I see how easily the digital world can become a refuge — especially for neurodiverse children and young adults who struggle with focus, social connection, or emotional regulation. Video games and social media provide constant stimulation and instant reward, making stillness or boredom feel unbearable.
But creativity — real, inner creativity — often blooms in stillness. It’s where we process emotion, build self-awareness, and connect to the world beyond a screen.
The Burble Story Tent invites that stillness back. It offers a safe, low-pressure way to experience imagination and calm, especially for children who are easily overstimulated or reliant on screen-based escapes.
As of now, Burble is based in Southern California and is raising community investment through crowdfunding to expand nationwide. Over 800 families are already on the waitlist, and their goal is to distribute 500 tents by mid-2026. Future plans include software and narratives designed for adults, as well as meditative experiences to support sleep — something I know many of my clients struggle with.
Why I’m Sharing This
I’m not sharing this story to promote investment, but because I believe this is a hopeful and practical innovation for families raising neurodiverse or gaming-addicted children. The Story Tent represents what can happen when creativity, empathy, and technology come together — a bridge between the overstimulated digital world and the peaceful, imaginative one we all need to return to.
